Out-of-state buyers are flocking to Florida — and not just Snow Birds. Redfin recently shared some statistics about real estate search habits that help highlight who’s looking to move where. These numbers point to some interesting trends.
For starters, four of the top 10 metro areas where out-of-state buyers browsed online were in the Sunshine State: Miami, Tampa, Cape Coral, and North Port. Miami clinched the number one spot, while Tampa was not too far behind in fifth.
Miami saw an increase in the percent of out-of-state searches from last year, whereas Tampa actually saw a decrease. However, Tampa’s net inflow (how many people are looking to move to an area compared to those who are looking to leave it) went up by about 60%. That means more people are looking to move to Tampa than move from Tampa.
We already know that Tampa is the hottest market in the US, but it is interesting to see that our neighbors in Orlando are looking for prime real estate on the Gulf Coast. Many of the real estate searchers checking out the Tampa area hailed from Orlando, while New York City residents made up most of the out-of-state buyers looking at Tampa Bay real estate.
